The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and the International Deaf Referees Union (IDRU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the development of Deaf football and futsal referees worldwide.
The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between both organisations, with a shared ambition to improve opportunities, education and international representation for Deaf match officials.
Through the partnership, ICSD and IDRU will work towards developing structured training programmes, exchanging technical expertise and creating pathways for Deaf referees to progress from national competitions to international tournaments.
Building a stronger international network
A central objective of the agreement is to reduce barriers faced by Deaf referees seeking opportunities within organised football and futsal.
Both organisations recognise the importance of accessible referee education, consistent officiating standards and stronger cooperation between national Deaf sports federations.
The partnership will also explore opportunities to introduce international referee development seminars, mentorship programmes and assessment systems.
Looking towards the future
The agreement represents a significant milestone in IDRU’s ambition to establish a sustainable international network of Deaf referees.
By combining ICSD’s international sporting structure with IDRU’s focus on referee development, both organisations aim to create an environment in which Deaf officials can develop their skills and pursue opportunities at the highest levels.
Further details regarding the implementation of the agreement and upcoming development initiatives will be announced in due course.
